How To Make Bobbatlu At Home


Bobbatlu or Puran Poli is one of the famous traditional food in India. Most of the people think it is difficult to do but if you keep little concentration then everyone makes this delicious recipe.
           A few ingredients like all-purpose flour and chana dal are used in this recipe. This is a kind of chapati stuffed with the mixture of chana dal paste. Today I will give you a simple method to make bobatlu then you can easily make it on your own. This recipe long lasts for 2 to 3 days. Add some ghee in Puran Poli when you want to eat. This will enhance the taste of the Puran Poli

The ingredients required for making  bobbatlu are
  • Chana dal -one cup
  • jaggery – one cup powder
  • cardamom powder- two tablespoons
  • Maida -one cup
  • Sooji – one tablespoon
  • rice flour – one tablespoon
  • baking soda – pinch
  • Salt – pinch for taste
  • Water
  • oil

PREPARATION:

  1. To make bobbatlu, first, you need to make maida dough.
  2. For this, take a bowl and add maida, sooji, rice flour, a pinch of baking soda and a pinch of salt to it.
  3. Then add little by little water to make a very smooth paste.
  4. Rest this dough aside for 2 hours.
  5. Now, cook chana dal to a point where if you pressed it will get mashed.
  6. Then drain water from cooked chana dal. Cool the chana dal and make a fine powder by using a blender.
  7. Take chana dal and powdered jaggery into a pan and start cooking till you get a thick Puran paste.
  8. Add cardamom powder to this  Puran paste.  No need to add water to this mixture while cooking if you add water then the paste became watery so it is difficult to make balls.

PREPARATION OF PURAN POLI:

  1. First, Take a small amount of maida dough Puran. Make small balls from it.
  2. The size of the maida dough balls should be half the size of Puran balls then only you get thin layered perfect bobbatlu .
  3. Now, Spread the dough like a chapati on one hand and put Puran ball on it.
  4. Cover Puran ball from all sides with maida dough edges.
  5. Now take a plastic sheet,  add some oil to it. Put the ball on a plastic sheet and spread like a thin chapati. 
  6. Then, heat a pan, add some oil to it.
  7. keep this Puran Poli on the pan and cook both sides of bobbatlu till the color changes to a golden brown.

Tips: 

  1. Don’t add water when you add jaggery. This will make your paste more watery.
  2. If the Puran paste became watery then put the balls in a cotton cloth so the extra moisture will be absorbed by the cloth.
  3. A pinch of salt will give you a nice flavor.
  4. Sooji helps to get perfect shape of the Puran Poli
  5. The softness of the Maida dough should be a little more than chapati dough.
  6. Add some ghee in Puran and jaggery mixture while cooking. This will enhance the taste of your recipe.
  7. Use oil or ghee to fry Puran Poli based on your choice
